Tamarack Lodge consistently receives positive feedback, particularly praising its beautiful cabin-like architecture, comfortable rooms, and convenient location near Traverse City’s attractions. However, recent reviews highlight concerns regarding staff interactions, cleanliness issues, and occasional maintenance problems.
Very lovely place clean and located in a great area. Parking isnt the greatest especially since there’s construction going on. Not a fan of being asked to wear a colored bracelet while on property that once you tighten isnt removable without cutting off. Also no first floor husband/boyfriend bathrooms that have full 24 hr access. No one wants to #2 in the room your wife or girlfriend is in. I know it’s a few minor things but spending over $800 for 2 nights and no water view id probably try a different place the next time I’m in town
This is a beautiful lodge. We stayed in a king walk out patio room. Absolutely beautiful! It was so relaxing sitting on the patio in the morning and enjoying the scenery. The fire pit and seating were relaxing during the evening. There were a family of ducks that would walk right up to you. Which was cool. The front desk staff was accommodating and welcoming. I really appreciated the 11-7 quiet hours. Our room was ready early which was a nice surprise. I will definitely be staying here again.
My favorite place to stay in Traverse City. Just outside the busy downtown area, but close enough to get anywhere you want to go. The rooms are comfortable, roomy, and right on the water. I have never been disappointed with a stay here. There are great restaurants within walking distance, along with some activities close by. The hotel staff is always friendly and the grounds are well kept. If you are in Traverse City, I highly recommend staying at Tamarack Lodge of Traverse City.
Stayed here with my family over the weekend and it was truly a beautiful property with cabin like architecture that transports you into another world. The kids had the greatest time running around the beautiful beach. The water was shallow very far out so they could enjoy running around! The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. Upon checking in ( which we were lucky enough to do early) riley and Shelby helped me with any questions or recommendations I needed. The housekeepers were kind and kept things very clean. So thankful to have such a wonderful stay here!!!
I recently went with some friends on a vacation up to traverse city for my personal first time and we stopped at this hotel. I have never even been up that far and had never even heard of this place, I wish I had. This honestly was the best hotel and hotel room I have ever been in. We got a three room suit and it was beautiful. Each windows had a very nice view even though the lake was still frozen. The service was second to non, one of my highlights was the pool table that anyone could use and the coffee machine that was free to use at any time! All in all, the best hotel ive ever been too, made my trip to traverse city that much better, would recommend to anyone.
Absolutely amazing experience. When we got there they gave us a free room upgrade. We got to the two room suite, with the in room tub, balcony, living room with a kitchen which usually is extremely expensive during the summer months. Thank you Tamarack. We’ve been planning our wedding, are recently engaged and came up on my spring break after being accepted back into university so this was amazing experience and nice break. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to check out a place we normally wouldn’t be able to.
We stayed this past week and really enjoyed our stay overall. Stacey at the front desk was wonderful, helpful, and social with us. We were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the staff was until our check out morning when we were treated very rudely by a front desk staff member (I believe her name was Mary). My husband called that morning to ask for a late check out. He then went to work in the lobby area so that we could check out on time and so that he could take his work meetings. She seemingly racially profiled my husband when she approached him as he was working in the common space and was tapping her wrist that he needed to check out. She didn’t confirm who he was, what his room was, or if he even was checking out that morning. We had no in person contact with her for her to know who we were or when our check out was. The energy was “you need to leave”. Unfortunate end to an otherwise great stay.
Every room in this lodge faces the bay. What a unique experience! The cleanliness throughout the lobby and game areas was pristine. Not a cobwed or dust in sight. Floors were freshly mopped even in the middle of wintery weather. The rooms weren't quite as spotless but still nice. My family enjoyed playing games and doing a puzzle by the fireplace in the lobby. You can also borrow puzzles, games or a few books to enjoy in your own room. The fireplaces in the rooms made it perfect for bundling up during our winter stay. Even the smaller rooms have plenty of space while still feeling cozy. Fresh coffee and hot chocolate at any time of the day and fresh-baked cookies at 7pm. You can't beat it! Our room had washer/dryer as well which was a god send The front desk {Carley)was especially friendly and kind. It was so refreshing and was the main reason why we decided to stay here. Can't wait to come back and stay during the summer to enjoy the bay. ETA We had trouble with our toilet clogging from the get go. The front desk girl immediately called someone to fix it. We had to mop the toilet water up with the towels from the room after he left. Unfortunately, once we setlled for bed we realized it remained clogged so we had to use the bar bathroom throughout the night. The next morning, we requested to switch rooms. While helpful, the different morning staff didn't offer anything for the inconvenience. We switched rooms, but had to wait a few hours as a comparable room wasn't available. This required our family to pack everything up and leave it on a cart while we went into town. We also paid more for the next night's stay as it was a slightly bigger room. I would have appreciated an immediate move to an available room, even if it was bigger, at no upcharge. It was pretty inconvenient to have to walk our minor children to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Recently made a reservation for one night in January (a very quiet season). Two days before our reservation we called to cancel due to a major storm in the area. We were told they would not cancel it and we would have to pay for the reservation. They also would not provide a credit for a future stay, we were just out for the entire cost of the stay. On top of that, they were rude and even though I requested a manager contact me, it never happened. There was a winter weather warning, ten inches of snow, ice, wind, etc. The wineries in the area were closed for two days because of the weather. The cost was not worth the risk of driving in such conditions. It’s too bad that this property doesn’t value the safety of its patrons. We have stayed many times before and will not be returning in the future.
We absolutely loved this place as the rooms were beautiful, just what we were looking for. However, after leaving, I found they charged my card for additional 250. When we called them to see why, they claimed that the unit was a mess, with "beer everywhere" and "hair in the bathtub." When we tried to question it, they promptly hung up. I have never heard anything more ridiculous. We had a handful of empty bottles on the counter for returns and two bottles of wine open on the table. We were careful about making sure the unit was as clean as you'd expect a considerate family to leave a room. If their housekeeping can't handle a few bottles and a little hair in the bathtub then what are they doing as housekeepers. I've worked for my fair share of resort hotels and have seen some pretty trashed units and never once charged someone that should not have been charged.
