The Fairfield Inn & Suites Traverse City receives mixed reviews, with generally positive feedback on cleanliness and location, but significant concerns regarding service, housekeeping, and amenities. Recent reviews highlight inconsistent service experiences, operational issues like a broken hot tub and malfunctioning TVs, and a surprising lack of daily housekeeping despite stated policies.
If you are a Mariott Bonvoy member skip this one and stay at the Courtyard by Mariott just down the same road as this hotel. I booked this stay with points for a family vacation, 2 queen bed regular room. Which the AC/Heater was apprx. 6 in away from the bed closest to the window, I bashed my knee into it. Got to be a hazard of some kind. Kids are 12 and 14 and wanted a pool for vacation. Website says pool, Bonvoy app says pool. THERE IS NO POOL. There is a big broken whirlpool hot tub. Nice for a quick dip but the jets are broken. Front desk gave 2 different guests 2 different answers as to why it was broken... I signed up for every other day housekeeping. They didn't show. Was told I have to request it specifically on the day I want it. My TV wasn't working for streaming and the director of operations Carissa was present. I asked if there was an issue with streaming HBO Max and she told me there was a Mariott wide outage. There was no outage. The nice girl at the desk tried to trouble shoot it, couldn't figure it out. Then that was it no offer for transfer or to look into it. Nothing. I attempted to get my reservation switched over to the Courtyard. Because I booked with points Bonvoy customer service said I have to settle it with the hotel manager. But, since I had already checked in, Clarissa the director of operations, told me that she could cancel the rest of my rez and refund my points but they wouldn't be available for 24-48 hours. Therfore I couldn't really book at the courtyard as I was already on vacation and couldnt risk not having a hotel room during a busy tourist season in Traverse city. Now it's not like I couldn't afford it, but I racked these points up and am using them for a reason. Bonvoy customer service was not very helpful with this either. Both parties the hotel manager and Bonvoy both seemed to be passing the buck to one another. I spoke with the manager, front desk worker, and customer service each several times with no resolve or accomodations offered. I have stayed at close to 30 mariott properties and this one has been the absolute worst with service.
Nice hotel and fairly close to all attractions. Rooms are decent size, beds comfortable and room was clean. Bathroom still has a tub/shower combo where more modern hotels have transitioned to walk-in showers. Only complaint was the shower curtain had a strong sour mildew odor. Breakfast was good. Nothing special in relation to other chains that have better offerings. Basic powdered/scrambled eggs, cooked sausage, cold cereals, waffle machine, oatmeal and bread selection. Free coffee 24 hours and fresh cookies in the afternoon.
The hotel is in a great location, with plenty of large grocery stores and restaurants nearby, which was very convenient. The staff were all wonderful, and we really enjoyed the city and the people here. The lady in charge of breakfast also kept the dining area very clean. Even after breakfast hours were over, she left fresh coffee for guests to enjoy, which was a very thoughtful touch. so my disappointment is mainly with the hotel’s housekeeping policy. The website says rooms are cleaned every other day, but this was not clearly explained at check-in, and honestly, most guests probably would not notice that information when booking. For a hotel charging $300–$400+ per night, it is hard to understand why basic daily housekeeping is not included. After spending the whole day sightseeing and visiting the nearby beaches, it was unpleasant to come back to a messy room with no fresh towels, no trash removal, and no bed made. This is a tourist destination, and guests should be able to return to a clean and comfortable room at the end of the day. I hope the hotel will reconsider this policy. At this price point, daily housekeeping should be a basic service. Otherwise, despite the convenient location, I do not feel the stay is worth the price and would have a hard time recommending it.
Place was very clean except the elevators could use a cleaning everyday. Rooms are clean but the carpet smells very strong. Hot tub was down all week during my stay. Several members of their staff were rude except Linda who was the best front desk person I ever encountered. She deserves a promotion and a raise!
Great place to stay! Room had all the amenities, fridge, microwave, and hair dryer. Nice size bathroom. It seems like it is a newer place. Very clean throughout. Employees were very friendly and helpful. Also has breakfast bar that was delicious. Not far from main area. I would definitely stay there again!
Great place to stay while in the beautiful area. The check in process was quick and easy, the staff was so friendly. The room was clean and the beds were so comfortable. We definitely recommend this hotel when visiting the area.
Highly recommend this wonderful hotel ! Great location, wonderful service, super clean rooms , comfortable beds and every amenity you could think of ! There's an outdoor heated hot tub , a lobby bar , delicious breakfast , fitness center , spacious gathering areas , cool fire place, free cookies in the lobby every day , a convenience store and nearby attractions like the Great Wolf Lodge, skiing , tubing , boating, beaches, shopping , wineries , breweries, amazing views and so much more !!! It's fair to say that the Fairfield is your best Traverse City destination!
Clean, comfortable rooms. Good coffee and breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice, big lobby to hang out with friends. Outdoor hot tub was great!
I stayed at this hotel for 13 days on a work trip and midday through my trip I was having a lazy day because I was feeling like I had a virus. I received two bold knocks at the door about 10:30 -11. It was not housekeeping but I couldn’t understand what they said besides “they were doing a wellness check.” I opened after looking out the peep hole. The person not in a hotel uniform and I didn’t see a name tag was holding a colorful clipboard saying they were doing a wellness check “on us” to make sure “we” were doing okay. I said it’s just me and I’m fine and I shut my door. Later I went to leave the hotel for the day and I brought this up to the front desk lady telling her what happened and that it was disturbing. She seemed confused about what happened to me. As if she didn’t know this happened in her hotel. When asked, She confirmed they would have entered my room had I not opened my door even though I had a DND sign on my door. She asked if I wanted to talk to a manager and I said yes. Then she went back to get the manager. I heard her say, would you like to talk to this guest and I heard her explain it all to her. The front desk lady then came out and told me they have been looking for their luggage cart and she had several other BS reasons she gave me. The older aged front desk lady was nice about it, just confused with a lot of guesses provided it seemed. the housekeeping manager did not come out to talk to me! I told them I’ve never experienced anything like this before. It made me really uncomfortable and I asked them to stay out of my room. I have nothing to hide I just had the sign up because I didn’t want anyone in my space and around my stuff for my long stay. I also said it would not have been weird had a housekeeper knocked and asked if I needed anything since it had been a week without services and they could have done a “wellness check that way” but it was disturbing to me that a not identified or well identified person did this. Had it not been so much effort to find another hotel and pack and move for the last week in TC, I would have. Overall this hotel was really nice. The room, bathroom, fridge, microwave, closet and the nice touch 4 coat hooks on the wall made this hotel really nice. They had a great breakfast (and Karen? Was a nice morning welcome and chat each morning at breakfast) but this experience with this weird situation at my door and then when I brought it up to the front desk was not comforting for a single female.
Stayed at the hotel few weeks back. Started smelling a strong burning smell early in the night (around 8pm), which not only filled the room, but also permeated the entire corridor. Unfortunately there was only person on duty managing the entire hotel. The poor girl had to manage the bar, constant check-ins, and request from guests such as extra pillows. After waiting 20+ mins for my turn, was told that nothing could be done and we just had to wait it out. Had to sleep with the nauseating smell the entire night.
