The Grand Traverse Motel offers a clean and affordable stay with comfortable beds and convenient amenities like a full-size fridge and microwave. While some reviewers note a slightly dated aesthetic and occasional musty smells, the majority praise its friendly staff, good value, and convenient location, especially during events like the Cherry Festival. Recent renovations and attention to cleanliness have significantly improved the guest experience.
For an older Motel, rooms are very clean. Beds are comfortable, and a/c is cold. Full size fridge and microwave in the room. Lots of space in room too. I felt safe and staff was present. Location was GREAT!
I will recommend the hotel, but check the condition on your room before you move in. We were there the weekend of the 2026 Cherry Festival. THE BAD - Don't stay in Room 129. 1) The deadbolt does not work on the entry door. There is no chain lock on the door. 2) The door to the bathroom doesn't close completely because the lock mechanism doesn't work with the door frame. 3) There is some kind of bad issue with the carpet. There was a dehumidifier in the room when we got there, and the carpet smelled like strong chemicals for the whole weekend. * We would have asked for a different room, but there was no vacancy. The whole town was booked. We hoped the smell would fade. We were committed for the weekend, so we decided to deal with it. THE GOOD The motel has been beautifully renovated. The room was spic and span, and the bed was very comfortable. The bath towels and paper products were higher quality than we have found in other hotels in this price range. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The housekeeper checked on us a couple of times to make sure we were fine, and we appreciate all of that. The location is about a mile from downtown, so if you're a walker and the weather is good, it's convenient. If you're not a walker, there a free loop bus that you can catch a little ways down on the other side of the street. The price is a bargain.
Great place to stay, very clean and felt very safe. A little overpriced for the cherry festival and not quite walking distance from cherry festival. Besides that it was great!
One of the best motels I've stayed at. Very friendly, very safe, reasonable price. Felt very welcome and I'm sure I'll stay again sometime.
Took a family trip and we were looking for something that wouldn’t cost traverse city prices and found the Grand Traverse Motel. Had a great experience. Clean rooms, affordable, about a mile from downtown, and complimentary breakfast items! Staff were friendly. We would come back.
Normal size hotel rooms, very quiet. Friendly staff and the beds were sooooo comfortable. I like having a counter top and small table as we got back late and ate dinner in the room. And the full size fridge was great because we had food, drinks and ice packs for a long soccer tournament. Would stay here again.
I just spent the night here and was incredibly impressed with how immaculate the room was. Friendly front desk person very helpful. I would absolutely stay here again.
Rooms were clean and comfortable. Full size refrigerator, microwave and single cup coffee maker. Close to multiple parks and beaches and also to multiple restaurants and other activities. Best part is they are pet friendly!
Just stayed here for a little over a week and had a wonderful time! Like most people visiting tc in the summer, we’re not in the room that much so it’s more for sleeping but ample space, comfortable, and clean. There are a few shabby chic details like the carpet being dated but you can tell there is constant attention to each room and we had everything we needed. Full size fridge and complimentary breakfast snacks/beverages which is all we really want in the morning anyway. If you like walking places you can get downtown (little fleet) from here, to the beach (don’t forget to bring your beach towels from home, they don’t supply them here), and basically anywhere you might want to go. If you want a luxury hotel experience, go elsewhere - the price is reflected in the accommodations - but we couldn’t be happier and will certainly be back.
This place is old and needs a whole new update. The room was clean but smelled. We had a fan on all day and night. We were booked for 2 nights but only stayed 1 night. The place needs a complete overhaul
